Is is possible to feed nuke python commands via a port.

I so wish you could do this with Nuke. It would allow using something like Mapy for maya where I can use an external editor to write scripts more interactively and run them in Nuke. Also when Nuke crashes I don't loose everything in the script editor.

Bingo - this is one of the many uses for the socket stuff!
I don't know if the foundry developers keep an eye on these forums - it would be a great thing to see in nuke.
In addition to the external editor case you mentioned, there are lots of use cases for pushing and pulling data between apps. The top one for me at the moment is interaction with asset management tools. A number of commercial + proprietary tools use ports to get stuff in and out of maya + houdini. It would be great to see the same thing added to nuke.
I think dan b has created his own port hook for the rmanconnect tools. My guess is that is a done via C++ though.

I already added it as a feature request #8191 but the more people that officially request it, the closer to the top of the list it will go. So email support@thefoundry.co.uk
will do - thanks for the tip
Mind you if you are scripting savy there are two examples shipping with nuke (server.py and client.py) that show how to create a non-blocking server in nuke listening to commands from outside.

Thorsten
yea, Vilya just mentioned this on the listserve. Nuke6.0v1/plugins/nukescripts/clientserver.py
