Scroll down to the bottom of this page and download the 3 Kodak grain samples. Extract the files to your HDD, add a Scanned Grain node and inside the node's settings, open one of the grain sequences.

Then view the Red channel of both FG and BG and try to match the grain detail and intensity. Do the same for the Green and Blue channels.

Compare A/B size, intensity, and blacks per channel.

Some tools such as Foundry's Regrain analyses the grain from part of an image to reproduce it as good as it can . The sample area would need to be something free of additional detail (so nothing but the grain itself) on a neutral/offwhite colour .

The amount of the area/patch after doing paint and roto should be minimal as to retain as much of the original plate (and grain) as possible so that if there is any difference in grain pattern from the original it should be very little .

If the automatic grain matching analysis isn't as good as you hoped it would be then you would need to get your hands dirty and follow as the other guys have said .

There is also an advanced grain node somewhere out there. Forgot who created the tool, but you can adjust the levels after you set the grain for each R,G and B channel.
