  1. #1 Hype Lens tool for Nuke OSX
The place where i'm at is still using a lot of shake, but we're slowly moving over to nuke.
They've just got loads of licenses for hype for shake in and doing all of their undistorting and redistorting with this.
As we're running nuke on OSX, there is currently only a hype for nuke beta for linux.
Is there a way to use nuke's lens tools or the STMap tool, to use the Hype data somehow?
I've tried undistorting a plate with the nuke lens tool, and with this data, redistorting the plate that was undistorted by Hype.
But the hype and the Nuke lens tool are just giving slightly different results.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

    cheers,

    Tom

    Hey Tom,

(DISCLAIMER: This is going off memory so I may be off slightly )

Bit of a workaround, but you could apply the Hype to a 2k UVmap still within Shake to generate a distortion map, and then plug that into Nuke's STMap. (The map has to be 32bit-float so use Tiff and not EXR)

I imagine that it could be written as a one-liner easily enough. Hope that helps.

Ah I see, that makes sense (kind of )
And how would you generate a distortion map in shake exactly?
    Thanks for your help,

    Tom

Ok, i've been playing around with this.
In shake i've made two HD sized ramps (one black to red in x, and one black to green in y), set them to float, maxed them, applied the hype tool, set it to undistort and rendered it out to tiff.

In nuke I copy the red to the forward u, and green to the forward v, and use that in the STMap.

It seems to be pretty close, but that might just be the slight softening of the edges that makes it looks like it's shifting a tiny bit, but I think i can work with this.

Is there a way to minimize the softening that happens when using the STMap?

    Cool, glad it's working.

You could un-dist a frame in Shake and compare it against the STMap frame to see if there is any extra softening going on, but they should be very close - if not identical. (Applying a light blur to the UVmap can help reduce artifacting too.)

Hello fellas. I was wondering if you were able to get a 100% fit with that technique. I've tried everything and it still returns a blurred image when compared to what Hype returns...=T

i haven't been able to get it to work properly either...it's close, but it's not nearly as good as hype...

Thanks for the response Tommy... very frustrating.. They have a Beta for nuke but it only works for linux, you got to email them about it.. I'm at a windows house so.... yay for me right?
