Are we allowed to also incorporate our own (filmed) footage? I don't remember seeing that mentioned yet.

In the previous challenge I thought it was, so I guess in this one might be as well.

Alice in Wonderland is an old children's story of a girl who escapes her real world, by following a white rabbit through a hole into a world that is metaphorically "upside-down" - meaning both figuratively and literally. Alice through the looking glass is based of a "sequel" of this story where Alice figures out how to return to Wonderland though a mirror - the mirror shows Wonderland in it when she looks into it - so through the looking glass.

I believe this challenge is that before Alice went though one of her childhood friends is this footage.
You are supposed to create the affect that she is going through the looking glass(mirror) in the attic to find the Queen's crown/discover Wonderland) So it is not recreating the White Rabbit, but making it as if she is the friend and she has been sent to get the crown and return it.

I basically see this as her getting the crown and moving back to her world with the crown though the looking glass.

I agree with you Mttjss... the only thing I don't get is: where are the clean plates of the girl? Those on top of the topic are watermarked... could someone confirm that clean plates will be uploaded?

I'm wondering if the structure that it's told could be turned it out. I mean in the guidelines given in the very first post of the thread it is said that what we have to do is:

and you must ensure that your character enters the mirror and returns through it with the ruling crown.
But I'm wondering if we can change the point of view and start viewing Alice's friend coming out from the mirror into Wonderland, taking the crown, and then, going back to the mirror to the real world; or instead if we have to show her in the real world, going trough the mirror to Wonderland and then back to the real world again.

I don't think it's all to be taken so strictly. As long as it follows the general idea and looks good, you'll be on your way to a good piece.

I guess that as well, treeloy, but I just want to be sure not to start working in a specific direction and then have to change it towards another.

    Hi all

apologies if the challenge is confusing - but these are the general main points:

VFXTalk challenge you to create the character of Alice’s childhood friend, using the supplied footage, and take her through the looking glass in search of the White Queens ruling crown. ..... The only necessities are that you must show a world in reverse beyond the mirror; and you must ensure that your character enters the mirror and returns through it with the ruling crown.
So you need to create the character of Alice's friend. You do not need to create the White Rabbit.

    and Treeloy is right:
I don't think it's all to be taken so strictly. As long as it follows the general idea and looks good,
I will check with Jah about the source footage and let you know asap.

thank you for all the interest and enthusiasm - I think this is going to be a great challenge.

Maybe just the head of the character in the footage is to be used, just as was done often in the film "Alice in Wonderland" where the footage of an actor or actresses was "patched" to 3D or real bodies.
