Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

So I just watched the latest (as far as I know) trailer on Apple Trailers (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/w...eathlyhallows/) and as a big fan of the books and the films I am dead excited about it.

But, the geek in me wanted to check it out frame by frame to see how the big players do it and I was shocked to find a few very dodgy frames. Now as far as I know it's still in post production and these things could be ironed out, but why include them if they're not perfect?

Check out the part where the snake attacks Harry starting at 2545 and there seems to be some bad work there. 2566, 67, and 68 are strange and 2576 and 2580 are particularily bad.

When you watch it at normal speed it's not really noticable but it's definately there and that was the one shot that didn't sit well with me on the first watch.

Is this a gross oversight or something that still needs to be repaired?

Hope I don't get anyone in trouble, but as a huge fan of the series I'd want to see it done right.

Yeah some mattes have gone pretty awry. The iridescence is nice though. His leg passes through the snake. And, looks like maybe some kind of morph to make it more natural has gone a little crazy.

These shots will not be final. You'll see this a lot. As trailers have to start been produced way ahead of release.

Remember there is still 3/4 months left in post before this film hits the theatres. I didn't really notice it in the cinema though tbh.

I hate how it says "the motion picture event of a generation".

Marketing isn't about showing a final product, its about showing something.

Generally trailer shots early on are nothing more than slap comps. They will replace the trailer as shots get finalled with new frames without releasing a new trailer.

I'm working on Piranha 3D right now and there are NO final shots in any trailers. There are actually 4 different fish styles from various vendors in look dev. Noone has seen any finals outside the show.

Thats how it works.

You tend to see a lot of outtakes in there too.

I remember seeing several slap comps of other shows at wondercon and comiccon and then not seeing those shots in the final release. Still, they were really cool as you got a chance to see a "making of" before the dvd release and of course cometary by cast members. But yeah, dont judge the movie by its trailers...just wait till you see it at the theater.

Nobody looks at the stuff frame-by-frame in the theaters. The music and the thrill are also a helpful distraction. Deathly Hallows is going to be super. I wanted to work on at least one Potter movie in my lifetime. Alas! That will always remain an unfulfilled wish.

I didn't realise that they were not going to be final shots. I understand that a trailer must be out quite some time before the movie is released but I just thought that they had certain shots that they wanted to be in the trailer and then they worked on them first to get them out. I mean, most of the shots there are amazing, final or not.

Everyday's a schoolday.

And don't worry, I know that these films will be fantastic, I love the adaptations from the books, the screenplays were well written, although there was great source material to work with. I think credit is due to everyone who works/has worked on these films. I mean, you don't become the most successful franchise of all time for producing shit.

but the scene with the snake- in the book was in an old house, with an old woman. Those images look to be a well let childrens room? Why the deviation? I understand some creative license must be taken to squeeze all that is in a book into a movie. But just like the last movie- when they burned the Weasley's house down- I saw no justification in it. If it furthered the plot or was the predicate to a needed scene or situation, I'd understand. I guess I'll have to wait for the film to see why....

I thought it was fantastic, but that might have been the initial euphoria, so the second screening tonight might shed a more realistic view of it.

Second you Javashrine !! It was incredible. The movie as a whole including the way it was taken and the work ofcourse. Kudos to MPC & Dneg and the other who worked on it. Brilliant stuff guys. And its a GREAT movie. Please watch it.

Regarding Dobby...I have to say that he looked a lot better in the Beach shots then in some of the inside shots.
I'm not sure why, but he seemed to look less cg in the beach shots.
But yeah, all in all the VFX looked great. Really top notch work!

Something happend in the DI. I was a bit shocked when I saw the inside shots in the cinema.
