    Hello,

Is it possible to lock out new users from posting a new topic until they have reached a certain amount of posts in the forums.

The one question posts are getting really annoying and water down the site. Such as:

    http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/export-...ny-t27360.html
    http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/compost...lp-t27410.html
    http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/ace-pho...on-t27321.html

Ofter you'll never see them again after they sign up to ask one question.

This doesn't have to apply to job forums or anything like that. Just the help forums.

Think of it as "putting a bit back into the community, before you take stuff out."

What if someone with0 posts has a valid question?
I can understand the idea behind this, but I think it's still wrong to generalize new mebers as too dumb just because of these annoying 'hi ny1 hlp plz..........'-posters.

And would a 2-post validation policy (like on CGT) possible here or would that be too much work for the mods?

If you say "plz" because it's shorter than "please" then I'll say "no" because it's shorter than "yes"

Ok beginners forum we can leave out. You're right.

As for the rest though. It's shitloads to trawl through without any mods

Theres an old grievance thread Boden started back a while ago considering the same thing. The solutions is: these people end up weeding themselves out.

Can't we just have moderators to approve posts if a user is under a certain post count?

I agree with Void on this.
Minimum number of posts or to be verified by a moderator.

Surely we could have a few extra mods doing some easy things like that ?

Definitely not to be discouraging for people who are completely new to visual effects or software but to ensure standards are high, and raised over time.

You hit it bang on the head there. I've been stalking around these boards for a while before I signed up and started posting, and all the quality material and genuine questions get bogged down by "OMG PLZ HELP TO PROJECT SAVE AFTER EFFECTS!!1 PLZ HELP I REALLY NEED TO KONW PLZ!!!!1!"

I personally get emails every day from people wanting help. Again, not to be discouraging, but I don't feel that the people who don't RTFM or do a quick Google search deserve to be helped. It is literally a few clicks and keystrokes, which would be much faster than asking on some forums and waiting for a reply, which they wont get anyway. If it's obvious that they've put in at least some effort to find the answer themselves, then that's a different story!

The point is we're missing the good stuff that makes this community great. I think the best option would be for a couple more moderators to be brought on board to approve posts made by people with under 50 or so posts. To keep these "what is google lolz?" people happy, I think we need another sort of "beginners talk" thread, that isn't monitored in the "New Posts" section of the User CP where these people can ask freely.

It does seem a little harsh, but it gets pretty annoying after a while.

I'm not shitting on people wanting to learn, I'm expressing my disinterest toward people who want all the skills and answers yesterday, and are generally too lazy to type a few words into Google or press F1 in their respective programs.

As a matter of fact, I like to help people out where I can. I've recorded a few (basic) tutorials for aetuts+ and do my best to get to everybody that emails me seeking help.

Moderating is best left for someone fit to do so. That person isn't me.

There is a difference between people trying to learn and idiots, total and utter annoying idiots.
People TRYING to learn actively seek resources, and won't say idiotic crap like, 'how do I make Cloverfied on my laptop'.

What on earth has this got to do with this thread, that's an irrelevant, fairly immature statement, keep it to PM's if you want to have keyboard fights.

Thanks for that. I think there's a balance to be struck between having/not having mods, and not scaring people away. I don't want to add more work for the mods but at the same time it would be nice if we could find a happy balance to weed out the one question and run people.
