It's your dissertation. That means you have to research. Read. Watch special features on dvd's about DI stage. That is your job to gather data, analyse your findings and write that down back on paper.

That is why you will most likely get no responses here to any of your questions. And even if I'm wrong and you do you cannot use them as reference, unless one of us works in the relevant field and agrees to that.

So I'd say if anything ask for a pointer to good literature/dvd's. But personally I think it will serve you better to just start your research. If you have access to e-books find a collection about cinematography and/or colour theory and look for DI, digital intermediate, colour grading, colorist etc. Same with google (remember you need quality references).

After you do that, read the articles and if you have new, more specific, questions SEARCH for answers first and if that won't help come and ask. ;]

    Good luck.

sometimes it's a bit confusing for me too, since I don't really know the difference between a cinematographer and the DoP ... the DoP's role on a movie is pretty clear - also in the DI process ... but there has to be a difference to the cinematographer yea

How are you doing a dissertation on something you know nothing about? Seems a little silly. :s
