There are different people called as Online Artists, VFX Artists and Colorists.

Online Artist: does editorial finishing. (Smoke, Avid Nitris, eq etc)
VFX Artist: does high end 3D Visual Effects(Flame, Inferno, Flint etc)
Colorist: does color grading.(Lustre, Scratch, etc)

But how the situation is going to be for these artists by the releases like:
    a) SGO Mistika
    b) Quantel Pablo
    c) Autodesk Flame Premium

Which combines all these three artists work together in one machine. Will one artist do everything: online-vfx-grading????

Wont it make too much pressure for the artists?

Not if the client is ignorant or is used to doing their work in a particular manner.
There's smoke guys who do nothing but online/finish elements that come from the CG dept and there's afx guys who can run rings around some flame op's.shrugs.

some of those set-up's in a smaller shop could mean taking on a bit more.
There's a reason you wont ask a TK guy to go articulate on a matte or worse still ask him if he can track his power window with the help of a 3d track

In a few years, new kids will be able to swing with all the tech they can get their hands on.

    Whats been your experience ?

Just because they sell all 3 on a single box doesn't mean and artist is necessarily doing all 3 jobs.

When you buy maya or any 3d package it can do 10 different jobs. Does that necessarily mean the person using it is going to do everything with it? Same with Final Cut Studio? Is the film editor doing the sound editing just because they recieved Soundtrack Pro in the box? and motion graphics because they get Motion? and DI because they get Color?

It's just companies trying to package up a bunch of software to make it look like a better deal for the absorbitant prices they are charging.

    Yeah.

I would although like to add that especially for 3d side there is also a practical reason for developers packaging software.

It often simplifies the flow of scenes since you don't have to export, import and bake any information when moving forward in production line.

When everything is done in one package you can always go back and modify the models/rigs/animation/shaders/textures/lights(....) without calling somebody to re-export the scene and send it to you.

The point I was trying to make was that when all artists work inside the same package it's easier and to deliver projects from one artist to another and there is no loss of information when doing this.

When working with image sequences the advantage of course isn't so significant since all softwares process the footage more or less same way. Working with 3d in more than one software however can be pretty tedious.
