That is a limitation of Quicktime not being available as 64 build for Windows (ever since). You need either to render with Fusion 32bit or use an external application, like FFMPEG (opensource) on you frame sequence.

This could be made an post-process step, with a little scripting even an automated one.

I wouldn't recommend to render to Quicktime directly anyway because if your render fails for whatever reason you have to re-render the whole sequence while Image Sequences can be re-rendered at any point.

The other annoying thing is that Fusion will not recognize AVI as higher than 8bit. Is it a limitation of AVI as well?

Don't quote me on this but if I remember correctly eyeon uses directshow to load AVIs and this interface does not support 10 bit videos.

Well, nothing to do with going pro really. I obviously prefer to work with image sequences but sometimes clients will handle you other source materials. With Fusion, you can't even use it to convert it to an image sequence because you will end up with a 8bit sequence.

At least now with 6.2 it seems the quicktime side of things is fixed.
6.2 now supports quicktime higher than 8bit.

That's a different matter if you're going to depend on a different tool. We were talking about Fusion.
Also as far as I know QT only support AVI in 8bit.

Among the new Fusion 6.2 Features:

    * QuickTime support for Fusion x64, with support for Timecode, and greater than 8bit/channel codecs.

My personal feeling about Quicktime Pro is that it is neither Quick nor Pro (gamma arrgh).

    But that's just me.

    amen - QT sucks.
but when it's all your source footage is available in... it's still good to be able to read it...
even if only to convert it to something that wont change gamma every time you render it.

I never understood why editors and devs (avid) choose this crappy format as base for their work but then on the other hand there where few online workflows back then.

So does this mean that apple has or will release a 64 bit quicktime codec or is there some workaround in Fusion 6.2?
