    Hello everybody
i am looking for a script that can be added on to silhouette by which i can render out all the roto mattes in one go. we have around 1000 polygons in a project and rendering each roto matte is extremely tedious.

basically what i need is rendering more than one roto matte at a time...is this possible?

the work arnd that we sometimes follow is import silhouette shapes to nuke and render all the shapes in one go but even that is cumbersome as all the folder structure has to be created first where the rendered file has to go. secondly due to absence of layer in nuke it becomes difficult to manage all the shapes imported. Another problem is even if i select one shape in silhouette to be imported to nuke, it by default gets all of them in the project!

i guess my plate is overflowing with questions..may be we cn just start with-
rendering more than one roto matte at a time in silhouette...is this possible?

    Thankyou

    are you running nuke 6.2?
I'm pretty sure that SFX 4 can output nuke shapes now, and it will keep the layer system, keyframes and animation etc.
    Looks pretty cool.

Can't help with the script though, sorry.

Why would you ever need 1000 different rendered mattes?

Coz we are doing stereo roto. Whatever you see on screen has to be rotoed in a 3d way. I mean if there is close-up shot of box then..each face of the box will be rotoed separately. These mattes will then go to the DG dept (depth generation) who give depth to the 2d plates using projection.

Hope I was able to explain this.

we are running nuke 6 and sil 4. today will check the layering system in nuke after i import the shapes from silhouette. yes it does keep the animation of the shapes. In nuke the problems were.. even if i select one shape to be imported it imports all of them. and secondly since it is stereo roto there are all the more chances of similar names to different shapes. (for eg. if there are two characters in the scene..then most shape names would be the same..in sl we manage this by putting them in layers)
may be some of my questions/answers are not making much sense or are confusing..please probe me further...

What version of Nuke 6 are you using?
As up to 6.1, you don't get the sfx layers into nuke.
Only from 6.2 it will you keep everything the same as in sfx.
Maybe download a trial version of 6.2 and have a go. It sounds like it's what you're looking for.

I agree with Tommy. You would be much better off importing the shapes to Nuke rather than rendering out each layer.

This is the kind of workflow issue you need to sort out before you start rotoscoping 1000 layers.

We are not using nuke 6.2. I will try as you said with a trial version. Thankyou so much.

yes importing to nuke was the work around we were using but it was getting complicated however, seems Tommy has solved my problem. cannot wait to try it in the trial version.

Silhouette already have this feature on it. Not sure on 4.0 but its on 4.1

On the Actions menu you have the option to render every shape or layer to image files.

oh my God.. if what you are saying in true then it would be awesome. You mean i can render out an entire layer with individual shapes (in that layer) rendering out to different pre-designated folders?
