I like it so far. For the fire sims - I better linke the first one since it's starts burning and flaming more even compared to the second one, it was a little too sudden when the wing got completely covered in flames.

for the simulation/animation itself I would say that at the point in time when the wing first touched the ground, in reality the whole plane would be draged down to that side since the ground touching wing has so much friction that it really causes the plane to get turn and get down fast.

The breaking parts look okay for me although I'm not an FX artist.

To the end of the shot most areas are covered in smoke and fire so the first touching with the ground should look really convincing. I'm missing some detail in the actual flames and smoke - the colors look also a little cartoony right now

for flame detail I would expect something like this:

and for the smoke fx I like this one:

both effects got nice detailed shading which I'm missing in your simulation at the moment ;-)

    good work.

@yakuzowner thanks for your feedback very helpful indeed, i agree with you about the wing simulation, tho the thing is wings in air crafts are designed to break off when it hits or in a crash it can actually drag the plane to some extant but not much. i really don't like it shattering in to pieces. so far i am working on that i want the wing to first bend as it hits the ground then break in to peaces. right now the rest of the plane is just animated its not simulated i think once its dynamic then it will drag with the wing, the wings of a plane also have fuel tanks in it that's why it catches fire but as soon as the fuel burns off the fire should eliminate as well.
the flame simulation is quite low res right now once i have some thing satisfying i will simulate it production quality.

yea exactly, I was thinking of that scene too when I first read your post. The shattering looks nice and you're right when the wing shatters that fast, the plane does not get pulled so much. I think it was when a plane touches water then it doesn't shatter but gets pulled into the sea.

I like the simulation in the film but not the shading of neither the plane nor the explostion itself - the plane's top and front looks too clean and when you see frame 1:21 I'm not sure about the plane's scale when comparing it to the cars where it touches the ground - looks a bit small - even smaller airmodels seem bigger to me than I see it there.

Overall the simulations are okay but the shading and integration seems a bit off to me.

ok so switched to Pflow box 2 i was using MassFx for simulation but was not satisfied with the result, here is a preview of the crash test so far.
Would love to get your views on this one.

looks good to me - the delay in shattering of the wing fits nice. Looking forward to see more layers

    @xseson23
i am glad you liked it mate TP is very powerful indeed but just not right for this, i feel more comfortable with other tools and sure will post the making of soon.

that looks nice to me - I'm really looking forward to see it in conjuntion with all the debris, dust and smoke layers - do you also do the final comp?

    Amazing work
I feel a bit strange the way the left engine jumps with a very weak piece. I think it must break on that point.

true, at least some metal parts could break apart from it. Although in other movies you could see them mostly laying around in one big piece looking a little damaged.

Make the enigne slide wider as its very heavy object and there should be peaces flying around from it, it jumps around like a basketball. Everything else looks good, I would just add another particle system and emmit some random peaces around like pipes and other tiny junk that verhicles have when they break apart flying around. All together with motion blur will look great.

Hollywood loves motion blur it hides lots of bugs.
