  1. #1 "Wind Vision" Effects (I.E. Lord of The Rings)
Hello, this is my first post!

I'm currently working on several concepts and shooting with a DSLR at the moment. Right now I'm using Premiere and AE for composting. I wanted to create a visual effect the same as used in the "Lord of the Rings" series. I can't find an example on youtube at the moment so I'll just describe until I can below.

When Elija Wood's character puts on the ring there is a selective focus effect employed, where the center is focused and the outside edges are both blurred and have a "wind" motion to them creating trails. I can't seem to find out how this was created despite looking for some time on google. Does anyone know? Thanks, I appreciate an help!

-With a lensbaby or Tiltshift lens I can get the selective focus...or even just as a plugin. It's the "wind"/tails part I can't figure out at the moment!

well what type of "wind" effect are you looking for? a soft breeze or like a harsh wind or what? sorry, I cant quite recall the scene you are talking about either...
Also, if you want it to go in front, behind, or just to the side of the guy makes a lot of difference too. Can you post a picture of what you have so far and what you're trying to achive?

If I understand your request correctly you could use kind of mix of Radial Blur and Turbulent Displace with a mask.

If I remember correctly reading somewhere on the net, the wind vision as you say was stock fire footage used as displacements in comp for the start of the effect. I'm not a compositor so other can tell you better than I
One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half.
