    Hello!
    For a personal project i'd like to create a good workflow between Houdini, PFTrack, Final Cut Pro X, Nuke and a first-class Color-Grading software. I know that Nuke is also capable of good CC but i want to do it as a single task for finishing.

    (want to dig as deep as possible into every software-package)

    I know that this isn't exactly the right forum for this question but i want to know more about those import/export capabilities.

    Which grading software is best for this kind of workflow?
    -> Baselight will be available as a plugin for Nuke and also has copy/paste function from "big" Baselight to Plugin.
    -> Davinci Resolve has a nice FCPX-XML workflow
    -> Assimilate Scratch has Scratch2Nuke-Workflow

    I want to work with the original files as long as possible.
    Is it possible to work with a Quicktime-Reference?

    (Magic Bullet, Colorista or Color Finesse are good Plugins but i want to reach the professional borders)

    best regards!

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

    When doing Color Grading in Nuke please take into account that it does´t support color management based on icc profiles. There are color and gamma shifts between Nuke and FCP X. In that case this article on Dave Girard´s blog might help.

    If you use FCP X and wish to send your clips (as Quicktime Reference) to another post-production application like Nuke you´ll need ClipExporter. Importing your FCP X timeline directly into Davinci Resolve via fcpxml files is a much cleaner and nicer workflow for finishing.

    For personal projects I try to stay as simple as possible. I found that tracking, comping and grading (and doing some simple 3D) in Nuke at the same time gives me a much better creative flow than interrupting the creative process and distribute each task to a separate application. The workflow is different if it´s a job for a client.

    Hope that helps.
    Thomas
