    Hello Guys

I don't know if somebody else has asked this before (I'm sure someone already has). I'm a junior artist and for what I've seen from the industry, a lot of work seems to come in the form of freelance. Considering that, how do you calculate or estimate how much you should charge for a vfx shot, model or animation?

On a pay per day basis.
If you say "plz" because it's shorter than "please" then I'll say "no" because it's shorter than "yes"

I was offered $18 an hour as a junior artist in a studio in LA. Would you consider that an appropriate amount to start with?

when the reel I found on your page is the one your studio was judging your skills - then it's a good start I think. Likely to read if someone thinks different.

Thank you very much. I'm still working on it. I'm still doing some research on this topic so, as soon as I get to know a different point of view I'll post it here.

I like to be paid shot-based. It's more flexible than per-hour/per-day payment since the tasks are different, two shots that both could be done in an hour could require different brain and physical efforts. However estimated price for the shot equals hour rate * work hours + something. Besides when you determine a fixed shot price you know how much you will get in the end. If not shot-based price, you don't know exactly how much time you will work on a project, as a result you don't know how much you will be paid. Anyway it's all up to you.

18 is pretty good, be happy it was not 15. freelance is really more for experienced artist as you have a lot of liability in finishing a product from home.

Thank you very much for your comments. You know, in school they usually teach you how to do your job but they never actually tell you how much your work is worth.
