Hi, so I am graduating today and have been looking around for runner jobs to apply for. One of them is in London and I am from the United States. Does anyone know how this generally works. Do I just submit my application normally or do I need to already have a work visa to be eligible generally? Are UK businesses known for helping foreigners secure work visas? I guess I am just looking for some insight, possibly from someone who has been hired outside of their native country, about what the process was like and maybe what the best practices are when trying to get hired over seas.

    Thanks

i doubt that any company will provide work permissions/visa for entry positions like a runner

and if your in the usa, there are plenty of companies around to work for.

and if you a fresh gradute i assume you still young, then you could get for a lot of countries (e.g. canada, australia) a "work and travel visa". if you can get such thing its make things in these countries easier

good luck in finding your first job!

btw: what did you graduate in? just to see if a runner position is the right start

Hey thanks for the reply! I graduated in 3D Digital Graphics but I did my senior thesis in Nuke compostiting and that is where my main interest lies. My reel does have a few 3d assets I created but the focus is on the integration ,roto, paint, tracking, and keying. Does all of that sound relevent to a runner job or should I go for something else. I am 21 so I will def look into the work and travel visa, thanks for the suggestion.

I would also recommend trying the work visa thing and to start off as junior comp or something.
But you should keep in mind the importance of either having connections or some work experience already or a very exceptional reel. If you have none of these and you go abroad just based on luck and good intentions, companies may be very reluctant to even give you a chance. Because you would compete with many local newcomers who know everybody through the schools they've been to.

Aside from that, here is the website of an organization doing working holidays for Canada. But if you follow e.g. the link for their UK partner, you'll also find Australia, New Zealand and even the US. Just a 4 month visa in the case of the US though.

I'll ask here instead of creating another thread :

did anyone went to Australia and get hired out there ? This is a project of mine but I'd like to hear how the job market is in Sydney or Brisbane.
