I'm trying to figure out an optimal workflow to work locally from a gigabit ethernet NAS server.
I've looked at the Local File Cache functionality and I'm curious if you guys are using it instead of manually copying the files locally.
Thanks.

Hi shader
I do use local cache, and so far:
1 it does work very well, i did not make compassion to "real copied files working speed" but certainly much faster than working from server.
2 Copying process it self (localizing) seems to be slower than just manual copying of files (did not find a reason for it so far)
3 Generally cool feature, so far very happy to have it![]()
Another thing which bugged my day,
1 if you overwriting file you localized before, nuke not always overwriting localized files, even if you saying to do that, so you ending with files with same name but file on the server is different from file you have on the local drive
2 no easy way to go and manually remove localized files, only from Explorer.
that it for now
You should definitely localize your footage. Set your knob cache_locally to always. Ive knoticed if it's set to auto it doesnt actually relocalize footage when i update. I dont know if anyone else has had that problem. Just make sure you go into your prefs and set a path for your footage to localize to. It will recreate the file structure on your server to where your footage is.
