I'm very happy to be attending SIGGRAPH this fall. It's my first one, and actually the first time I'll be in the states at all! I'm really looking forward to be seeing and experience the whole event and the trip as well.
After SIGGRAPH I'll be heading up to San Fransisco for some days just to have a good look around. Everybody I've talked to that have been to San Fran says it's a really nice/cool town so that's gonna be great!

Now I'm wondering who of you fellow VFXTalkers that are going to SIGGRAPH this time? It would be really nice to have a little get together and a beer or two in real life.

I'm also interested in sharing rooms at hotels and such because I haven't fixed my accomodation yet. Tips of good hostals and other places are very welcome as well, thanks in advance. ;-)

    Cheers!

Iam not going to SIGGRAPH and have never been so I can’t offer you any advice on SIGGRAPH, but I do like SF.Alcatraz is good, try to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, I only walked half way, but you get some nice views. Views are good from the Coit tower. If you like art try MOMA or the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. If you want a short trip out of the city, get the BART to Berkeley.
Stockholm is good also, must be nice now. I love Plopp bars.

Some tips on SF. If you're in the area and want to get to Alcatraz, book your ferry ride over a couple days in advance. They sell out quickly, especially during the summertime. There are some self guided tours with bikes that allow you to get a bike in the marina south of Golden Gate, bike across the bridge, and get a ferry back to the place you picked the bike up. I haven't done it, but I've seen people do that. Also, don't forget the cable cars! But do it early because it can be up to two hours just to get on. Easier to get on in the Marina area (Ghirardelli Square) than it is to get on at Powell St. Get on google maps and look around at the satellite imagery of downtown SF to familarize yourself (sort of) with the city.

Hostelling International may have some hostels in the area. I've done them before in my travels to Europe, and they're pretty nice. Stayed in a castle in Spain. Very sweet. Check them out.

I've never been at Siggraph but was wondering if it is worth going there if I'm looking for a job..... or if I should just send out reels...
    Any thoughts?

I'd love to go to Siggraph, but it's a little to expensive for me at the moment... :\
