    Hi,
I have a little problem, i want to have shake but it can only start on linux or mac OS. I don't have a mac, and i don't want to buy a new computer cause i have no money. SO i thought i could install linux as dualboot next to my windows xp. Does someone has experience with this? Does it run stable? And i don't really understand all the things you should what is said in the documentation of linux how to run dualboot, so i'm quite lost. Help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks in forward

it´s pretty straightforward: The most important thing is that you install your linux distribution after windows, the installation routine will take care of the dualboot pretty automatically, but you should take care about your partitions, some of the wizards can be a little tricky, but i never had problems with it...

it all depends on the distribution though....

Personally i got shake running on Fedora and Mandrake, right now I´m testing Ubuntu linux, but i didn´t get it to work. It should be possible, so it´s just my bad, i guess....

    good luck

Ok, I know how it works.
But maybe now i have another problem, cause Wahookah you say you couldn't get Shake to install on Ubuntu, But after a discussion at another forum my dis of choice was Kubuntu (Ubuntu but with other interface (GNOME OR...) Do you think it's still possible?

    Thanks

Oxide stated, he´s running shake on Ubuntu without problems, so it should be possible, i wrote him a mail and asked about how he set it up. i will post the answer, or maybe he will post it himself....

don´t know kUbuntu, but i guess it would be similar...

And something else. I read at this forum that you can't download a Shake Linux demo, but you can contact apple to ask for it. I contacted the ADC (apple development connection) software seeding services and they haven't replyd yet (asked it 3 days ago. Do i need to ask it to seomeone else or does it takes a while.

Shake works just fine on Ubuntu. You need to install some libraries for it to work.

Well, I think the tcsh driver is the one you need. I'm not too sure what other drivers there could be needed in order for Shake to run on Ubuntu as my Sys.Admin installed everything.

    Hi,

I have installed Shake on Redhat and Fedora.

First install Linux and get it running. For Shake to work properly u need to configure your network card for the shake license to work. And most important thing is to get your video card configured properly, which depends on your video card chipset, Nvidia are easy to install and configure, ATI is a bit tricky.

If u would like more details PM me.

I would have to add Shake is only supported under Fedora (RedHat). Any other Distro you will need to work out the problems on your own. All the systems at my company have Shake on Fedora Core 3 and all have NVIDIA cards because they are supported cards on the Fedora Core.

Check what apple supports, if you are using maya too you should be using GNOME on Fedora Core 3+ make sure you have the latest kernal and patches.

Take your time researching. Check out LinuxQuestions.org for Linux related (dont ask about shake on that site). Also, there are install instructions on HighEnd2d.com Check them out.

I'm getting a bit crazy, i downloaded fedora someone said (not here) that Kubuntu also is good and looked cool and is good for beginners, then wahookah sais he coulnd't get it to install on Ubuntu, then Oxide tells it's possible but he doesn't know really how, then FX Saint and tcomputerchip say it is possible but if you don't have fedora and nvidia card you have to do it at your own. I'm really confused now i have an ATI Card with Kubuntu so what to do, plz help me Oxide (since your system. adm. got it to work) how to get it installed on Ubuntu. Or COmputerchip and FX Saint plz help me or give a link how to get it installed on Fedora with an ATI Or Ubuntu if you can.

I know i'm doing a bit hars, but i'm asking for this problem for weeks (not here) and i still don't know which distro to download etc.

    Thanks in forward,
    sorry for my angryness
