Finally saw the film. Hands down this movie will win the oscar for best vfx. It may have some bad color mis match and matte/key issues, but that is over shadowed by the amount of incredible shots. It seems the debates that take place here are over matte lines or color corrections, which at times can really take you out of the picture. This movie to me was about animation, lighting and fx, and at times compositing may have been an after thought, which it usually suffers from since it's the back end of the process with the least amount of time.

The scene where kong fights the first T-rex was some of the best CG I've ever seen. The animation was great and believable, but the lighting and fur is what made my jaw drop. That sequence in itself is what deserves the oscar.

I know i'm coming in a bit late but i finally saw King Kong (on DVD) and was totally blown away... the graphics were amazing! Kong rocked when he ripped the 3 t-rex's apart and the entire pre-historic jungle was so well done i felt like i was really there.

I have to agree with fin, it was some of the best CG i've seen - and the compositing was so slick and un-noticeable it really made the film way more realistic than it would have been.

Gotta admit i really wondered if Peter Jackson could pull of the level of quality he made his rep with in Lord of the Rings - i cant wait to see his next film!

This is a cool thread eh? I have to say I was not a huge fan of this film , as with most of you a few things distracted me and I was a little bored at the beginning. It's certainly a far cry from the original, don't get me wrong, but I didnt really feel for any of it. Have any of you seen the original Kong, He was shoddy, but he was a bad ass?

I think I might critique something, but I'm not sure what yet...maybe, "The Crow." what do you think. The scenes of Brandon Lee post existence are seamless and I love the story.

Let me know and then I'm on it.
