    Hi there:
I've been doing 2D compositing in After Effects for the last 2 years and a year ago I took a basic Maya class and bought a student version of Maya Unlimited.
You know, it was only yesterday that I learned about Motionmatching.

All my Maya books are in storage. i've ordered the Gnomon DVD and the book by dobbert. I'll pull my books out when I get home from work.

What I am wondering is: Does Maya have all the software I need to do motion mapping right inside of it?

    Just curious! THanks

there's a product called Maya Live that is a part of Maya Unlimited that allows you to mastch 3d elements with live spots if thats the type of matchmoving you are looking for....

    http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...112&id=6872635

check it out, hope that helps but i think its the only tool they have in regards to tracking and camera integration between 2d and 3d scenes

    hope it helps,

theres also something called MouJou which is boujou built as a maya plugin. I've never actually used it, I'm a syntheyes match mover pro fan, but from what I understand it gets the job done.

    heres a link: http://www.2d3.com/html/products/moujou_overview.html

    cheers!

hi, well Maya contains a powerful matchmove system in itself which is named as Maya Live, u can easily track any type of fotage ranging from chroma shots to normal shoots, it's based on manual tracking system, which means u have to manually place the markers onto different places to track the camera out, as far boujou is concerned it gives u manual as well automatic tracking, which made the life easiernow days of vfx artists, and the book of dobbert u r refering to, is a nice book, it gives the general tips, tricks and techniques of tracking and also how the tracking software works by leting u the the techniques of photogrametry and things like those...
so I think u must strat of with Maya live rather than going into specific tracking softwares like boujou, pixel farm track or realviz matchmover...
Feel free to ask any queries

You can use Maya Live for a lot of shots. They did it on X3 I believe. But for more complex shots, you will need something like SynthEyes or Boujou. I recommend SynthEyes becuase it's extremely powerful and cheap. Let's see, ah, $400.
