Deconstruction has about run it's course, but the urge to do so I think will never die. It's so cool that one can exploit this so effectively in the virtual CG world. So that said deconstruction oriented projects have to be the most fun, eh!

just a update guys that we are still on the case here, its just taking a bit longer to line up all the sponsors for the 'mega yearly prize' due to everyone running off to NAB

We are talking to eyeon to see if they will sponsor a copy of digital fusion and trying to get through to the guys at digital domain to see if they will ante up a copy of nuke...

the prizes for the last set of challenges will be anounced next week and we will be giving away a grand consolation prize as well to the leader of the last series...

other that the grand prize for the new set, everything else is sorted and ready to go so get ready to let the challenges begin!!!

I'd say, just get the thing started and sort out the big prizes as we move along - it's going to be running for a whole year again, right? So especially if we can get the quality up, it might even be easier to get companies to sponsor the thing, since they will be able to see the possible gain from it.

    yes..

we closed down the old series 2 a week or so ago to make way for the new series 3

    http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2875

we have been getting everything togeather for a kick off on the 1st (took us a bit longer than we thought as we had to chase the sponsors down but we are there now).

we got the eyeon/digital fusion guys to jump in and sponsor the grand prize and the guys from pluginz.com and cmivfx are throwing in some cool monthly prizes so everything is pretty much set to go it should be announced in our newsletter next week!

    get ready to rumble...

    There's a newsletter?

BTW I think I've won a Rendernode subscription in the previous challenge - who do I contact to receive it? (does Rendernode still publish on a regular basis?)

    heh

yea there's a newsletter... nothing fancy its just text only but we hope to make it nicer... big things happening here at vfxtalk!

check the leaderboard for prizes and contact info... if you're listed we will hook you up

seems like rendernode's last magazine was published in october 2004 - moving ahead we will be giving away a years subscription to cinefex instead, so i'm shure we can swap those rendernode prizes out for cinefex subscriptions...

Great. I guess that I am just in it for the glory then, since I just renewed my Cinefex subscription for three years just two weeks ago. Ah wel...next time, gadget. Next time!

    ok everyone,

just a heads up that we have kicked off the series 3 challenges today

    http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5734

got some cool new prizes as well including a mac mini for 1st prize every month, a phat coupon for $300 worth of plugins for 2nd place and some cool training material if you came in 3rd!

plus the grand master gets a copy of Fusion at the end of the series...

looking forward to see how it all pans out!

Having just submitted my challenge-entry (first ever by the way ) i asked myself how "secure" the voting system is in regards of "fraud voting" by registering fake users, your kids, family etc . Especially with the bigger prizes that are now given out. Have the admins/mods thought about that issue?

But apart from that, a cool(?) addition might be to bring together kind of like a voting panel - invite pros from the VFX-industry to take part in the voting. Using maybe a system, that could count 60-40 (pros<->"normal" forum-users) towards the challenge-result.
Among other things, that could possibly attract more people to the challenge and drag it even more in the spotlight.

How do you like that idea?

something I've noticed in this challenge is it would be nice if we were all working at the same resolution. Could you possibly specify that for upcoming challenges?
