  1. #1 New to fusion, have a few questions.
    Hi all!

    I just got Fusion 5 and have followed the courseware and am having some trouble figuring out what output I need from my 3D app (3DS Max) to get these two seemingly simple effects to composite in Fusion. I know it must be something simple that I am missing, but I have been trying to figure this out four almost 5 hours and am not going to be able to sleep unless I ask someone! LOL! I am so obsessive when it comes to things like this.

    Anyway, here are the things I want to do and what I THINK I need to do as output from Max to do this:
    1.) Depth of Field blurring.
    2.) Fogging of Background based on Z-Depth.
    3.) Blending of 2 Images based on Alpha and Z-Depth channels.

    I am outputting in OpenEXR file formats with the alpha and Z-Depth Channels within the image.

    I have searched online for almost an hour looking for something that would cover what I am looking for and am not having much luck--again, probably due to my being at it for so long, and not quite sure what to call certain things as I search. Any help here would be much appreciated!

    with the z-channel you should be able to do all the things you want, maybe you must adjust the channels in your loader. there you can define which channels of your EXR are mapped to which "fusion channel"
    then you should able to do all the things you want

    1.)LD->DepthBlur
    2.)LD->Fog
    3.)just a Mrg

    I just made sure that the file had the z-Depth map channel, but I am still rather new to the interface and I am not quite sure how to set up the flowchart schematic. I know there has to be a way to do this interactively. Here is a capture of what I have thus far.

    I am not used to dealing with an interface like this. I am more used to a plugin where you just specify what you want applied to what object. Oh well, at least I can find help here!

    in addition: go to the Eyeon website and download the most recent edition. 5.01 build 30 is WAY too old. The newer versions are much more stable.

  8. #8 Thanx all!
    I really appreciate all the help you have given me. One last question: I am wanting to blend 2 layers together based upon each of the 2 layer's Z-Depth. Again, EXR format with Z and alpha.
