  1. #1 High end Compositing Pipeline
Hi everybody, this is my first post in here, and I hope I dont sound like a complete noob.

I'll try to explain my situation the best I can, ok here I go:

I'm trying to get as much information as I can about the pipeline in HighEnd compositing systems, like flint, flame & inferno, I want to know exactly what do I need to make this kind of systems work, talking about extra hardware, I already have the quotes for the systems, but I want to make sure what other infrastructure do I need.

The quote includes the SW and the HW for 1.5hrs in 2k with the adequate breakout. But I dont know if I need extra HW like a SP or Digital Betacam, patching boards, and things like that. The company works in projects for NTSC, HD & 2k sizes, so the I/O might be very different.

My main concern is: The flint/flame/inferno can be a real "out of the box" solution; meaning that if I buy one (I know the prices), I plug it in to the power outlet and start working. Of course Im not going to buy a ranking system or a laser film printer at the moment, I can outsource those processes for the moment, but I want to make sure I can work with the system. I feel like and a lot of money is in the middle so I really dont want to screw things up.

Any reference or comment will be appreciated.

    Regards

    Paconavarro

Tnks for your lightning speed answer, I did that, but I want to know more than the usual sales representative talk, there might be some small letters somewhere and I'd like to hear from the users of those systems.

I know the prices, I have the quotes, its not a dream, we have the financial resources.

    hi,
I guess a DigiBeta and a patch panel should not be too out there as most houses have this facility.

Also arrange for a demo and see what tools the flame/inferno offers currently that other apps on the market dont.

Could you clarify the question at all? I'm not sure what info you're really after.

As you've mentioned the discreet systems definately aren't cheap, so you want to be sure that a) you have the work to pay it off, b) can staff it with good operators and c) it will offer your clients something above and beyond desktop-based software. By that I mean a grunty Mac loaded with AE, Photoshop, FCP, Shake and a few plugins will do pretty much everything a Flame will do, for a fraction of the price. But the discreet systems do have pulling power with agencies and production companies so I guess its a calculated risk.

As for the decks and patch panels thats really up to you. It would be very helpful to have one accessible to the flame.

Try asking over at fxguide.com. There's a lot of FFI people there.
