Where did you get this from? Maybe the site that had this video up, will offer some more hints on how to achieve this.

I wouldn't bet a cent on that, but the werewolf looks very much like those in Underworld... might be a clip of a test of one of the companies that did the VFX for the movie.

I guess that transformation used some kind of shape or relative vertex keys... at least that's what they are called in my 3d app... don't know for max tho...

In lightwave, it would be done with "endomorphs". You model various stages of the transformation using the same base model as the reference. Once you have the various stages modeled, they are used as morph targets for the original shape. Depending on how you set up your endomorph targets, you can control specific areas of your morph independently from the rest.

Endomorphs are the same tool that animators use to make facial expressions and lip syncing work as well.

    dear friend,
this is 3d morphing done with very high end plugins developed by studio for film level work.we can did that in 3d softwares like 3ds max(morpher modifier),maya but not to that extent . They are film level artists and have very high-level programs for doing this.

I'd also say this isn't vertex morphing/blend shapes but an animated displacment map (combined with some nomal bone/joint animation).

You can also see a great example of this technique in Tarons awesome video:

Diplacement maps are currently a big hype in CG ^_^

I used the Maya Techniques Facial Rigging series to do something similar. Has infor for vreating the different shapes, still having control over facial movement and deformation, like moving the jaw when he is morphing and even displacements and color/texture changing while he is morphing.
