    Hi guys,

Here is a test render (image) I have so far. It actually has an animated sky, and will have animated water (trying to figure out displacement layers in Shake). I added an image of the moon and sun, added some increased saturation, and a little depth of field (ZDefocus in Shake).

I'm interested to see what anyone thinks of the look or color before I go much further. I'll put up a screenshot of the script if anyone would like to see that too.

    Thanks,
    Dax

saturation looks good...except it does look a tad too bright to be around dusk ....

    cheers

What kind of feedback are you looking for?

Pat on the back: Looks good keep it up

Real world: There are a few issues...

    1) Too saturated, but you already knew that...

    2) You have a lot of clipping of color in the sunset. Try to bring in some more gradient into it, and reduce the clipping and banding. Grain will sometimes hide this if it's not too bad. (This is too bad)

    3) Shadow Levels.. Take a look at waht is in shadow on your buildings and the bus, then look how dark things are under the trees. You might want to bring the tree shadows up a bit, and the rest of the shadows down a bit, to find a happy medium.

    4) 2 moons? Is this intentional? If so, look where the sunset apears to be coming from. The moon(s) need to fall off to the natural sky color on the 2 o'clock position. Just think spacially where the sun vs moon(s) and the earth would be.

    Hope I wasn't too brutal...

    Thanks for the feedback guys!

I was going for a surreal or stylized look, which is why I had the moons, and the increased saturation (technicolor?). It doesn't seem too popular, so I'll lower it a bit.

I'll have to work on the clouds for sure. Those are actual video that I haven't even touched the clouds yet (just layered).

I'll work on your other suggestions, much more to do.

    Thanks

you've also got to take this crit as just that ...crit! ...if you like the saturation etc, and its what you were trying to express...then run with it!!

This is a challenge for all to express their creativity given some pre-defined boundries/rules etc ...theres no client telling you he/she doesnt like overly saturated results... if its what you are trying to convey-a mood you are trying to set - a genre etc etc...then go for it!!

take the comments into consideration, but at the end of the day, an alternative sequence that works is just as good (if not better) than a true to life one

    cheers mate

    Thanks Paul,
I understand what you mean about realism vs. expression, but without label saying "I'm expressing myself" wouldn't people think negatively of the work? I don't know myself, so maybe this would be a good topic. I still appreciate everyone's criticisms, maybe I'll try a couple of different avenues. I was definitely going for a stylized approach. (or I need to clean my glasses...heh heh).

dude...im all for expression!!! if you produce the goods and it stands well in the area of expression that you are aiming for more power to you!!!

Wether or not you pre-empt or 'label' your work as expressionist doesnt really matter, people will critique it based on what they see ...if they like - they like ...etc etc ...

    what do others think ????

    Cheers
