This is as far as im gonna get with this one.
Im off to Thailand on a long overdue holiday.
when I get back this comp will be over
I'll be looking forward to the entries when i get back.
all done in C*2 and photoshop 5.

    C*2 to do the shine
    Leaves are particles in C*2
the type in the background it done in C*2
I wanted to do the runes/elvish text in 3ds max but i would
have had to trace the fonts.
before i could bevel them and map them
but you can kinda see the effect im after.

The main type was done in photoshop
where i added vines wrapping around the letters
and added a couple of green leaves and some moss
cant really be seen at this size but if you look closely enough
    youll see them

    SOFTWARE: Combustion 2.1, PHOTOSHOP 6.0

NOTES: Got some maps, made it look old, typed out some pages, made them look old too, then flipped them in MAYA.

The texts are stills I made in Photoshop then sliced up in Combustion so that each letter is a layer and animated them individually. If you look at my workspace, its got about five separate composites in it...

Anyway, this is my first try. Thanks and I hope you like it!

COMMENTS: 3d max was used only to create the grass layer, i wish i could use a real footage. the clip is fast & the quality is not superior in order to have the smaller size.

So here it is, my final version for this month's challenge. I hope you like it. It's all done in Digital Fusion except for the falling 3D-ring that I made in Max5. The flames are from the Digital Fusion tutorial footage that I down-rezzed and used as bitmap sources for Fusion's particle system.

The Font is from some hardworking person somewhere in WWW-land. The final Hobbit logo I made in Corel Photopaint, but 'real' painting is not my strong suit, so it could've looked better in my opinion. Apart from that as mentioned before in the WIP I went more for a teaser/trailer variety since 20 seconds doesn't really do justice to a title sequence anyway. I made it instead as if I was in fact vying for the assignment in real life i.e. just make as pretty as possible pictures and hope they'll like it.

So that's basically it. Good luck to all and to all a good night :-)

COMMENTS: The first field scenery was shot (late night) with DV and is prosessed in AE. I tried to make it look like an early morning with sunrise. The light rays are also added in AE. Underground cross-section is made with photoshop by combining different ground materials that I searched from the net. All txt/title work is also done in photoshop and combined in AE. Editing and some color work in Premiere.

The last part of this clip is straight from the LOTR Fellowship of the Ring, I used it because that was the only way to get this idea to work. Did not have enough time to build my own smial

I made the music too, but it is not the main thing, and im not quite happy with it.

    The Hobbit - SdFX

Here we are - remember the sound! No WIP this time, cause we did the whole thing just now. We'll do a "how we did it" later on the homepage. The "flyover" was "stolen" from "The Shining", because it was better quality than the stock footage available - we hope it still qualifies as stock, though. The runes are etched on Bilbo's door by Gandalf to alert the dwarves that come to his house. We did some research to find the correct symbols and here's what the experts said about their meaning: "The runes are drawn in a line going downwards in the same order given here. They were meant to indicate, 'Burglar wants a good job, plenty of Excitement and reasonable Reward'. Possibly the three symbols would literally be shorthand for something like, 'Burglar Desires treasure'.

The end door sequence is a matte made from stills from LOTR (FOTR), which was cameramapped on (very) crude geometry in Max. All editing was done in Vegas.

    Software used:

    Photoshop
    Vegas Video
    3DS MAx

    Have a blast!

    Hi everyone,

This is my first post after joining this great forum last week and I thought i'd give the challenge a go.

SOFTWARE USED: Digital Fusion 4.02, for all compositing and effects.

The background is a high res still downloaded from http://sxc.hu/browse.phtml with colour correction and camera move added in DF. The flame used in the type was from our inhouse stock footage and the ring was a basic render from Lightwave with the reflection of the background added in DF.

TIME TAKEN: about 10-12 hours over the course of the week

Not sure if i needed to upload the flow but can do so if required

It's an AVI in DIVX 5.0.3 codec. Hope everyone can view it, not used to converting to Avi's...

    Thats about it! - Cheers,

    Stuart Mackay
