    The Challenge

We figured for the first challenge of 2007 we would up the ante a bit a put your painting, design and character generation skills to work in our VFX306 Challenge, The Spiderman 3 Opening Sequence! Inspired by the upcoming Spiderman 3 movie, this challenge combines everything that you have learned in the previous 5 challenges and will bring out the true designer in you!

You are the director and producer in this challenge and its up to you to create a short, 10 to 15 second opening sequence for Spiderman 3 displaying the title credits! In your opening sequence you will need to name at least 5 characters from the film, including Spiderman and Venom.

Of course, you can go as far out as you like and include actual characters and animated backgrounds or you can keep it simple and text based only! The winning piece will be the one that comes across as smoothly and professionally as possible!

Okay here it is. I thought I wasn't going to be able to make it but at last...

I looked in many Ultimate Spider-man series for these frames and found the ones with the most suitable character expressions to the known story of the movie. Then tried to add some subtext with the darkening actor names. Also there is a screenshot of the node tree.

I used Shake 2.5 since I don't have a Mac and Photoshop for the Texts because I couldn't make some fonts work in compositing.

    Cheers.

Here's my submission. I planned to make something different but life got in the way and I run out of time so I've decided to finish it as it is..

Tools used: Fusion 5 for comp, 3dsmax 9 to model, texture, rig and animate spiderman. The spider webs were also created with 3dsmax. I used photoshop for some texture tuning and Vegas for final edit.

Eventually it's 18secs, 3 secs extra (not including my own credits).

PLEASE view the high quality quicktime. The compression of the divx avi kills all the details.
    View it here: http://www.savefile.com/files/505117 (34mb)

Make sure you hear it with sound!

I also prepared a wallpaper, just wanted to give out an output of a higher quality. Feel free to use it if you want.

    Enjoy.

    And good luck to all!

    ** EDIT **
I fixed some issues with the fade to white and also changed the begining of the clip a bit..

Ok, here is my final opening sequence for the "Spiderman 3 VFX Challenge".

I used Illustrator to layout the basic shapes of the web and the fabric-pattern. Then i did some finishing touches in Photoshop to get the "golden look" of it. For the textanimation and particles, i used Motion. Since this work was done i fed all the sequences and images into After Effects and created the cameramove. At last Final Cut for the final cut. That's it.

Hope you like it. Good luck to everyone in this challenge!

    Hi
    Here's my submission

Software used: 3ds max - VRay - AfterBurn - Adobe After Effects - Shine - ReelSmartTwixtor - Adobe Illustrator

I used illustrator to draw the lines of the web, then I exported it to 3dsmax, where I refined it to change the 2d flat look. I rendered each object in the logo animation in a seperate layer. I rendered the web using vray, and every thing else using default scanline render. And I used afterburn plug-in to make the dust. Then all layers composited in after effects.
The titles also made with 3ds max and composited in after effects.

    Good luck to everybody

    Hey Guys,
I wish I had more time on this, because i still have lots that I would want to put in.

My idea was to create a little bit different concept from the original hollywood style. I wanted to re-create a bit of a comic book style feel with the concept of 'decay'.

I used Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects.

    Hope you like it..

    Thanks,

    Kerry

    Hey Guys!

Here's my final submission. I used Lightwave, Photoshop, & After Effects. I planned on doing more, but a few things came up, therefore, I kept it basic.

    [EDIT]
I noticed the colors looked a little bit dull. So I made some tweaks. And uploaded both a Quicktime and a DivX.
Also i have uploaded some WIP movies. Enjoy!

So this is basicly just a couple of days work. Didnt get any more time over.
Theres much more i wanted to do with this (3D web and spidey fabric). But i think it turned out pretty good after all.

I tried to make a following theme true the movie.
For example you will see that in every clip when the names appear. The BG will have a different color (red / dark blue). Matching the person.

Please note. The Spiderman 3 logo animation in the end is a test export i did weeks ago. So the image quality is horrible. And theres about 10-15 frames missing. And the text doesnt have a proper shader on it.

Ok so the software i used is:
Photoshop: Spiderman frabric texture, "Columbia" and "Marvel" logo.
    Maya: Spiderman 3 logo.
    Blender: Spider web
    After Effects: Compositing

BTW. Im wery sorry for the poor quality of the .mov. Ill try to upload a hires.
PLEASE. CHECK OUT THE HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGES.

Good luck to everyone, awsome work!!!!!
